Safety & Control

IS AI LIKENESS LICENSING SAFE?

Handing your face to AI sounds like the start of a cautionary tale. Done properly, it is closer to renting out a property with a very good lease.

The risks people worry about

The fears are reasonable: ending up in content you would never agree to, losing control of where your face travels, or signing something broad and irreversible in the excitement of a first payout. All three have happened to people who handed their likeness to services with vague terms and no consent machinery.

The protection is structural, not promissory. What matters is whether the platform is built so that misuse is impossible by design, rather than merely promised against in a policy document.

What proper protection looks like

Granular consent you control: on Actorsy, you choose category by category what your likeness can be used for. Film and TV, advertising, gaming, D2C and voice are individual toggles, and political and adult content are blocked unless you explicitly allow them. A buyer physically cannot license a category you have switched off.

A contract on every use: every licence records the scope, territory, term and fee. There is no blanket, perpetual, everything grant. If a use is not in the contract, it is not permitted.

Withdrawal rights: you can withdraw from future licensing at any time. Licences already agreed run their contracted term, and then that is the end of it. Your identity is also verified at signup, which protects you too: nobody else can list your face.

Red flags on any platform

Walk away from perpetual or irrevocable licence grants, terms that let the platform sublicense your likeness however it wants, no per-category consent controls, no named legal entity behind the service, and payment models where you earn only after opaque thresholds. A legitimate likeness platform makes its consent model, its contracts and its company details easy to find before you sign up.

Common questions

Can my face end up in political or adult content?

Not unless you explicitly allow those categories. On Actorsy they are off by default and licences are only issuable within the permissions you have enabled.

What happens if I change my mind?

You can withdraw from future licensing at any time. Existing licences run their agreed term, so buyers are not left mid-campaign, and no new licence can be issued after you withdraw.

Could someone impersonate me and license my face?

Identity verification exists to prevent exactly this. Every profile is tied to a verified, of-age person before their likeness can be licensed.
